Spending hour upon hour on the computer, as many of us do, our eyes tend to suffer the brunt of the work. No longer are our jobs and pleasures mostly the pursuits of hard labour, but we sit at a computer for a living, or we sit at the computer or TV for fun. This means we simply cannot overlook our eyes when it comes to creating a yoga routine that addresses all our vital functions and organs.

Yoga can help lessen eye strain and improve vision. It can even help give you a new psychological perspective. Try this to see what I mean…

1. Keep your head still and look straight ahead.
2. Focus on a spot in front of you and very slowly turn your face towards the left, as far as you can go while still keeping your eyes on that spot you chose when you were facing forward.
3. Go slowly or you’ll get dizzy! Don’t push it if your eyes hurt when you try this. But if you can make it through, see how your entire field of vision changes? See how your whole visual perspective is altered?

You can gain a whole new perspective on situations just by trying that simple exercise from time to time. First to the left side, then to the right side, moving slowly and never straining your eyes or your neck. Stuck on a problem at work? Need a “time out” before dealing with a stressful situation? Use that simple exercise to clear your mind by giving yourself a new angle on things through your sight.
